Medalla de l'Incident de Xina

La Medalla de l’Incident de la Xina (支那事変従軍記章, Shina Jihen Jūgun Kishō) va ser una condecoració militar japonesa establerta mitjançant l’Edicte Imperial núm. 496 el 27 de juliol de 1939.

La seva finalitat era reconèixer la participació de militars i personal civil en la Segona Guerra Sinojaponesa, conflicte que es va estendre des del 7 de juliol de 1937 fins al 2 de setembre de 1945.

La medalla va ser abolida l’any 1946 mitjançant l’Ordenança del Govern núm. 177, en el context de l’ocupació aliada del Japó després de la Segona Guerra Mundial.

Obverse

The obverse of the medal is preserved in very good condition. The suspension bar bears the inscription 「従軍記章」 (jūgun kishō), which can be translated as “War Medal.”

Made of bronze and measuring 30.5 mm in diameter, the medal depicts the Yata-no-karasu, the three-legged mythological Japanese crow, flanked by the flags of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy. The 16-petalled Imperial Chrysanthemum appears at the top.

The ribbon is made of silk and combines several colours, each carrying a symbolic meaning: dark blue, associated with the Navy; light blue, with the Air Force; brown, with the Army; dark pink, representing the blood-soaked soil of China; and bright red, symbolising blood and loyalty.


Reverse

The reverse depicts a stylized landscape of mountains, clouds, and waves, symbolizing the regions of northern and central China, as well as the Yellow Sea.

Case

The case in which the medal is kept has retained its shape well, although part of its outer covering has worn away, exposing the original cardboard structure beneath. Nevertheless, it remains in fairly good overall condition, and the kanji inscriptions are still perfectly legible.
